Often a picture or an image (in words) says more than a lot of talk and explanation. A powerful image for data management is that in many organizations we actually have 2 environments where we work with our data, i.e. the primary systems and processes work in the operational environment, while the reports, AI, ML and other analytics work in the analytics environment.

If you realize that, then setting up or improving data management, data quality, etc. also becomes a lot more targeted and even a bit easier. In an analysis environment you do need to do data management, but in a different way than in the operational environment and purposefully according to need.

Data Mesh also builds on the principle of the 2 data planes. Check again Zhamak Dehghani’s good explanation of Data Mesh here, highly recommended: https://lnkd.in/eV5-adED

Do you feel like and need to work out Data Mesh with others based on DAMA DMBoK in a working group of DAMA NL? The next version of our DMBoK will cover several new developments and our working groups will give input to DAMA International.
