Training courses and workshops

What we do within our organisations, we do as well as we can think of and do. What will we do when we find out that we cannot do something well enough in changing times with changing demands.

Trainings courses and workshops

The path to better data management is to become aware of it and competent at it. There is no set route to do this, but often I come across that:

  1. With alignment sessions, business, IT, and the data management function will get better aligned, so they can begin speaking one language and can better articulate what meaningful steps forward are.
  2. With data management foundation training, many people get a good understanding of data management and see the connection, which helps them move forward.
  3. With case-based training, I discuss very concrete data management challenges specific to the organisation, resulting in great insights and executable actions.

Alignment Sessions

Getting data management to the next level so that it can better support the business in its objectives requires change. The current way of managing and using data entails too many (mostly hidden) costs and risks.

This means that existing functions will need to know more about data to do their jobs better with respect to data. It also means looking through the layers of the organisation to see what this means and how it can be managed. It also means that business, IT, and the data management function need to share each other, each other’s language and priorities in order to move forward together on data.

In this session, we will go from general, getting to know each other and the field better, to deep understanding and far-reaching alignment to arrive at clear directions and actionable actions.

The Data Management Fundamentals

For data management, I have an excellent training course that covers the full breadth of data management according to DAMA DMBoK. This training is extremely suitable for anyone close to or in the data management organisation, from data steward, data manager, data officer to Chief Data Officer.

We will cover all the topics of the DAMA DMBoK, such as data governance, data quality, data architecture, metadata, data warehousing, BI, data science, master data, data modelling, data integration. I also discuss some overarching concepts to make sense of the connection between data, organisation, the Enterprise architecture and policy.

By the end of the training, you will be able to apply consistent data management practices in your work and have the ability to take the esteemed DAMA CDMP Fundamentals exam.

Case-based Training

My case-based trainings are tailor-made trainings. After a preliminary discussion about what the challenges and priorities are for your organisation, together we determine one or more cases to discuss in a session (2 to 3 hours). We often go through some theory and knowledge from the DAMA DMBoK and then get to work on the case. The format is extremely interactive, with participants expected to provide a lot of input to achieve a good result.

The nice thing about this way of training or actually workshopping is that you all take your time to look at the subject. You can start to understand each other’s points of view and jointly arrive at insights that can help you tackle the challenge.

Case-based training is hugely practice-oriented and typically delivers very concrete results that the organisation can take forward.

The vision

The vision behind these training sessions and workshops is that if you want to move forward as an organisation, you have to go down this road with your own people to do so. I teach your people what data management is, how they can give it practical shape and can continue to guide the organisation throughout the journey.

People need to get moving and that works best if the motivation is there, if there is communication, if knowledge is readily available.

It’s about:

Do It Yourself

Own people who know the organisation like no other, I can teach the craft of data management.

Continuous learning

Always one step ahead and a new challenge presenting itself.

Learning Together

Learning and working together vertically and horizontally throughout the organisation, from data governance to data quality, from operational issues to advanced data analytics.
